GUTS & STOMACH: Instinct, sensation and listening

Guts & Stomach

Instinct, sensation, and listening

A Body of Trust gathering · An intimate somatic expressive arts studio experience with Alyssa Jurewicz Johns

Before a thought takes shape, something may already be moving in the belly.

A tightening. A flutter. A pull toward or away. A quiet sensation without a name.

This gathering invites a conversation with the gut through movement, body mapping, drawing, and creative writing. We’ll attend to what is present—sensation, stillness, uncertainty—and allow it to find expression through gesture, color, shape, and words.

What happens when we stay curious about what we feel?

An image may arrive slowly. Its meaning may take longer. We’ll give the conversation room.

Inside the studio

A sensation becomes a color. A line becomes a landscape. Together, we’ll explore the body’s many ways of speaking, with space for individual discovery and the companionship of creating alongside others.

Rooted in the Tamalpa Life/Art Process, this gathering is part of Body of Trust: Creative Investigations in Movement & Image, inspired by my book of the same name. Each session offers its own exploration and can be attended independently.

You choose how you move, what you make, and what you share. No previous movement or art experience—and no reading beforehand—is needed.
