What happens to time when we stop chasing it?
Winter has a way of making a clock look foolish. By five, the darkness has already settled in. The body wants another hour under the blankets. Somewhere beneath the frost, a seed is doing absolutely nothing we can measure.
Meanwhile, someone would like to know your goals for the new year.
Your heart has a different proposal. Keep time with what quietly moves you.
(the) Time Being is a committed 5Rhythms series of six gatherings unfolding across three winter months. We’re stretching our time together, leaving space between sessions for rest, living, and letting the dance work on us. A little room for the season to do what it does.
Beginning at Yuletide, we’ll cross the threshold of the calendar year and travel into the depths of winter together. Through Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms—Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness—we’ll explore the many ways time lives in the body. A memory that brings the past rushing into the room. An anticipation that pulls us ahead of ourselves. A dance so absorbing that we forget to check the clock.
We’ll follow the pulse beneath the hurry. Give an unfinished gesture time to unfold. Listen for the moment a movement wants to change - and the moment it asks us to stay.
Perhaps this is how we begin to bend time: by inhabiting it more fully. Making room for a breath, a dance, an encounter that would otherwise get hurried past. Letting our attention linger long enough for something unexpected to take shape.
Art-making will be woven into our gatherings, giving the dance another language through image, color, and mark. All supplies are provided. One evening will feature a live Wave with dancer, artist, and musician Drew Bayura, bringing live music into conversation with our moving bodies.
We’ll return to the same group throughout the season, allowing familiarity, trust, and creative possibility to deepen. Between gatherings, there will be space to notice how the practice finds its way into daily life.
New and returning dancers are welcome. No dance or art experience is needed - bring your curiosity and the body you’re living in.
Come keep time with us. And occasionally lose track of it.

A place to return to…
Through the winter, we’ll keep a place for one another. The same familiar faces, a shared rhythm, somewhere to bring whatever the weeks have held. Each return gives us time to become more at home in the group—and room for the work to deepen.
This is a committed container, with registration for all six gatherings and no individual drop-ins. The spaces between sessions are part of our winter pacing: time to rest, let an experience settle, and notice what follows us home.
Most dancers miss a session or a few along the way. Life will always be life’ing—and that’s okay. Your place in the circle remains yours. The tuition holds your place for the full series, regardless of attendance.
We’re making a commitment we can return to, with room for being human.
