SPINE: Support & the way we hold ourselves

Spine

Support and the ways we hold ourselves

A Body of Trust gathering · An intimate somatic expressive arts studio experience with Alyssa Jurewicz Johns

There is a quiet conversation between gravity and bone.

It shapes how we rise, yield, reach, and take up space. It also reveals something of how we have learned to hold ourselves.

Through movement, body mapping, drawing, and writing, we’ll approach the spine as a living structure—responsive, expressive, and in relationship with the ground.

What does it take to hold a familiar shape? Where might support become available? How does an image move when we give it room?

We’ll follow the relationship between structure and possibility, allowing our own imagery to guide the investigation.

Inside the studio

A line on paper can offer another way to encounter a familiar posture. A small movement can change how we relate to an image. We’ll give these exchanges time, with room for reflection, optional sharing, and connections to everyday life.

Rooted in the Tamalpa Life/Art Process, this gathering is part of Body of Trust: Creative Investigations in Movement & Image, inspired by my book.

You are welcome to attend this session on its own. No previous movement, dance, or art experience is needed. Seated exploration, pauses, and changes of direction are welcome.
